A Legacy of Care, Continuing Forward
Today, Dickinson-Streeter continues its tradition of service under the guidance of Tazzini Funeral Home and Cremation Services, led by Joseph F. Pasternak, III and George B. Tazzini, III. As licensed funeral directors, they remain committed to honoring the principles of care and professionalism established by Al, James, and Valerie Gay.
Though times have changed, our dedication to families remains steadfast. We are honored to uphold the legacy of Dickinson-Streeter while bringing the expertise and compassionate service of Tazzini Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
For over a century, Dickinson-Streeter has been a pillar of compassion and dignity in the community. Founded in 1861 as Pomeroy & Fiske, and later becoming Dickinson-Streeter under the leadership of Francke W. Dickinson and George W. Streeter, this historic home has served generations with unwavering respect.
One of its most dedicated stewards, Alfred J. Gay, devoted his life to funeral service, guiding families through times of loss with grace and empathy. A graduate of the New England Institute in Boston, Al began his career at Dickinson-Streeter, covering both Springfield, MA, and Brattleboro, VT. His expertise extended beyond the local community—during the Korean War, he was stationed in Germany, overseeing mortuary operations in Munich and Nuremberg.
Al’s commitment to service was evident in his leadership roles, including his tenure with the Massachusetts Funeral Directors’ Association, the Springfield Rotary Club, and his involvement with Christ Church Cathedral in Springfield. He was known for his unwavering dedication, ensuring that every family received compassionate care. Even in later years, he remained active in the profession, working alongside his son and maintaining strong ties with Tazzini Funeral Home and Cremation Services. We promise to continue his level of professionalism and service.
